New Head of School Named!
To the Lesley Ellis Community,
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Rhiannon McElwee as the next Head of School at Lesley Ellis, beginning July 1. Rhiannon brings years of experience as a teacher, curriculum leader, and administrator. For the past 14 years, she has been at the Stevens Cooperative School in New Jersey, a school akin in philosophy and values to those at Lesley Ellis. She holds a Master of Arts from the University of Glasgow and a Professional Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Rhiannon is uniquely suited to be the next Head of School because of her ability to make genuine connections with students, her teaching expertise, her leadership abilities, and her passion for progressive education.
The hiring process involved interviews, an extensive visit to Lesley Ellis, surveys, and reference checks. The picture that emerged was compelling and consistent. Rhiannon was described as warm, personable, and supportive – someone who is easy to connect with. She exudes a sense of joy and excitement for her work and for Lesley Ellis in particular. She was described by those who work with her as having been a dynamic, innovative teacher who sets a high bar. She is a big picture thinker who offers fresh perspectives and routinely elevates conversations. At the same time, she is self-aware and open to feedback. All in all, Rhiannon is someone who the search committee concluded will energize not only those she meets with, but the school itself.
I want to thank the Search Committee, as well as the many parents and staff members who participated in this process by interviewing the candidates during their visits, filling out surveys, and sharing their thoughts and impressions. Educators Collaborative, the search firm, did an excellent job, bringing forward a set of outstanding candidates. Lesley Ellis is a terrific school bolstered by its highly supportive community, one in which Rhiannon is enthusiastically looking forward to joining. Please join me in welcoming her to Lesley Ellis.
Sincerely,
Paul Stein
