The Middle School programming runs Monday through Thursday, from 3:15 – 5:30 p.m. Students are offered a wide variety of activities including study hall, clubs, enrichment opportunities, and athletics.

Monday
Math Support with Michael
Michel’s Math Support will be broken into three sections: homework support, skill building, and math games. Students will be able to complete their homework with help from middle school math teacher, Michel Ohly. All students will also register for a free Khan Academy account and Michel will support them in completing problems to strengthen skills based on assessed gaps and weaknesses. Finally, each day will end with engaging math games chosen to build general numeracy and math fact knowledge.
Ballroom dancing with Mariya
Do you enjoy dancing to your favorite songs or following the latest TikTok dance trends? How about learning different ballroom dances to elevate your dance game to the next level? Learn a combination of partner, group, and solo dances. The styles will cover a wide range depending on what interests the group the most. Who knows? This might lead to a performance opportunity at school or maybe a flash mob?

Art With Ian
Ian Choi, a rising artist in Medford will join us to do in depth projects teaching various art techniques. From drawing and painting to 3-D art skills, students will have time to create projects that help them develop their artistic skills and learn how to express themselves through various mediums.

Study Hall is a time during afterschool that is set aside for independently studying, reading and finishing homework. A teacher is available to monitor and lend simple support to students. All students must be enrolled through Auxiliary Programs in order to attend.

Writing Support with Peter
This after school writing support group led by Peter Bulmer, will provide you with valuable opportunities to strengthen your writing skills and build confidence in your abilities. By creating a supportive and engaging learning environment, Peter will empower you to become more effective communicators and lifelong writers. Specifically, Peter will provide support around writing assignments in middle school subjects, including English, lit groups, history, and science. If you do not have an ongoing writing project you will work on grammar skills, revision and editing, and creative writing.
Oom Yung Doe: Traditional Martial Arts
This class, offered through the School of Oom Yung Doe, will focus on both physical and mental growth. Students will have the opportunity to improve strength, flexibility, and coordination as well as focus, discipline, and confidence. All levels welcome.
Literary Magazine with Margaret
Middle schoolers at Lesley Ellis will have the opportunity to submit their creative writing for publication in a literary magazine. Students interested in writing poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, etc. can begin to hone their skills through lessons in each genre. Their writing will culminate in the second annual LES Literary Magazine.

Chess Club (Grades 5 and 6)
Chess Wizards bring their interactive, discovery-based curriculum that inspires you to think ahead, visualize your goals, treat others with respect, and learn from mistakes. These classes are geared to suit middle school-aged kids of all skill levels. From castling to checkmate artists, you will build upon your knowledge through lessons, tournaments, trivia, variation games, and more! Chess Wizards make learning chess more than just a game of winning and losing!
Lions Take Charge
Do you enjoy helping others and supporting the rights of all people? This club will give you an opportunity to learn about community service opportunities both at Lesley Ellis as well as in the greater community. Come join us and decide where to put positive action to work.

Whether you have never knitted before or just need some support to work on the project of your dreams, knitting club is for you. Michel Ohly will teach beginners the basics of casting on, knitting, and purling. More advanced knitters can learn more complex knit patterns, like seed stitch, basket stitch, or cable knit stitches. Knitters who have achieved proficiency can work toward projects such as an infinity scarf, knitted hat, or knitted afghan blanket.
