Grades 7 and 8
Bold questions, authentic voice, real-world impact.
In grades 7 and 8, learning at Lesley Ellis deepens in complexity and sophistication. Students explore challenging ideas, take greater ownership of their learning, and strengthen the confidence, voice, and empathy needed to make a difference in high school and beyond.
Leadership and Community Connection
As students progress through grades 7 and 8, opportunities for leadership and engagement within the school community become central. Older students take on meaningful roles, mentoring younger peers, leading service projects, and modeling inclusion, respect, and responsibility in all they do.
A highlight of the year is the monthly all-school assembly, where eighth graders emcee and guide the program, setting the tone for celebration, reflection, and togetherness. Assemblies often center on themes of kindness, curiosity, and social responsibility, giving students the chance to practice public speaking and to guide the community in living out the school’s anti-bias and inclusion values.
Across these experiences, students learn that leadership is not about hierarchy but about initiative, empathy, and connection. By the end of eighth grade, they know how to lift others, use their voices with purpose, and lead with integrity, confidence, and joy.
By graduation, eighth graders are curious thinkers, resilient learners, and compassionate collaborators. They approach challenges with confidence and creativity, express their ideas with clarity and purpose, and engage thoughtfully with their communities, leaving Middle School prepared to contribute, lead, and thrive in high school and beyond.
